Description

USS Massachusetts (BB-59), known as "Big Mammy" to her crewmembers during WWII, a battleship of the second South Dakota-class, was the seventh ship of the United States Navy to be named in honor of the sixth state. She saw service in Northern Atlantic and Pacific during the Wortd War Two. She decommissioned 27 March 1947 and she was enshrined at Battleship Cove in Fall River, Massachusetts, on 14 August 1965, as the Bay State’s memorial to those who gave their lives in World War II.
