Description

BMR-1 is a Soviet armored mine clearance vehicle. It was created on the basis of self-propelled artillery mount SU-122-54. The experience of combat operations in Afghanistan showed the need for mine-trawling vehicles in armored units. Initially, the old T-54 and T-55 with damaged weapons were converted into mine trawling vehicles. Then they began to remove from them the unnecessary towers. And from the splinters and bullets of snipers began to install on top of the "chicken coop" of thin armor. Later, the Ministry of Defense of the USSR issued a technical assignment for the development of such a machine. The car received the designation BMR (armored car mine). The development was entrusted to the 482st Design and Technology Center in Kiev.
