FIFIE BOAT - SCOTTISH MOTOR FISHING VESSEL

Description

The Fifie is a type of fishing boat developed on the eastern coast of Scotland. It was used by Scottish fishermen from the 1850 until the twentieth century, when many of them were equipped with an engine. These boats were designed for herring fishing, using drift nets, indeed they were also known as "herring drifters". They are characterized by vertical prows and sterns, a long straight keel and a large bau, attributes that made these boats very stable in the water and which allowed them a very large sail. The long keel, however, made them difficult to maneuver in small ports. This Fifie kit is based on a recent version, equipped with a propeller motor.
