HEAVY CRUISER USS CA-37 "TUSCALOOSA" (1944)
Description
The USS Tuscaloosa (CA-37) was a United States Navy New Orleans-class heavy cruiser. She was laid down on 3 September 1931 at Camden, New Jersey. She was known just before War for her rescue of the 580 German passengers of "Columbus" liner. She served during the main part of World War Two on the Atlantic and Mediterranean fleet. She saw action in all major campaign (Operation Torch, 6th of June Normandy D Day, Sicily etc...). At the end of War she saw action in the pacific ( Iwo Jima). Placed out of commission at Philadelphia on 13 February 1946, Tuscaloosa remained in reserve there until she was struck from the Naval Vessel Register on 1 March 1959. Her hulk was sold on 25 June 1959 to the Boston Metals Company of Baltimore, Maryland, for scrapping. Tuscaloosa received seven battle stars for her World War II service. (Scale : 1/700e)- Brand:
