Description

History

It is a single-engine, means of transport and anti-submarine warfare helicopter, with the cockpit located above the anterior portion of the cabin, a four-blade wheel landing gear, articulated main rotor, and tail rotor. In the early 1950s, Sikorsky embarked on the development of a device derived from the S-55, but more powerful. This allows the new aircraft to have an increased carrying capacity, and thus meet a request from the US Navy for a new anti-submarine fighting helicopter.
