AIDA Cruises is a leading cruise company. The firm is particularly in tune with informal travel, designed to suit the taste of a younger clientele. The majority of AIDA cruises are run by the Carnival Corporation through their subsidiary trading as Costa Crociere, the German firm based in Rostock. The AIDA fleet therefore also operates under the Italian flag with Genoa as its home port. In March 2007, the AIDA diva sailed down the River Ems after a year under construction at the famous Meyer shipyard in Papenburg. The baptism of this first AIDA Club ship of the latest generation took place in Hamburg in April 2007. Since then she has been cruising the western Mediterranean. The ship is 252 m long, has 13 decks and more than 1,000 cabins for 2,500 passengers served by a crew of 650. The AIDA has 4 engines each with a capacity of 9,000 kW and a top speed of 22 knots.
